Best preparation guide For Tableau Certification
Tableau Certification: Take the quick guide if you don't have time to read all the pages
Tableau Certification is our resource for training, certification, and career development. Whether you're a Tableau Customer looking to build your skills or an IT Professional in need of relevant knowledge, we have the right course for you. Tableau is the leading provider of powerful analytics software and data visualization tools to give business users answers to their most pressing questions quickly and easily. Named one of the Biggest Data Tech Trends by Forbes magazine, more than 35 million people worldwide are using Tableau Software every day to know what they know.
A Complete Overview of Tableau Certification
Data visualization is a must these days, and for many organizations, Tableau Data Visualization Software is the go-to choice. Well known for its low cost of entry and competitive price, Tableau can be used by just about anyone to create data "magic" that lets people explore their data in new ways. It's no surprise then that many people are looking to become certified on this software. For those who aren't familiar, Tableau offers three certifications: Tableau Desktop Associate (TDA), Tableau Desktop Professional (TDPro), and the Ultimate certification. The first two are aimed at beginner-intermediate users, while the Ultimate is designed for power users and is considered by many to be the "gold standard" in data visualization. Here at data18, we recently came across another certification: the Tableau Data Visualization 10.5 Certification Exam from Kelsey Group which are all included in Tableau Dumps. We found this particular certification to be rather confusing though, so we'll try to provide some clarification in this post. If you're looking to become a Tableau expert, you might want to consider our Tableau training courses.
Introduction of Tableau Certification
Tableau is one of the leading visual analytics software in the market. It helps business users to study and find insights by using data visualization technology. It helps them visualize their data in an interactive and intuitive way, as it doesn't involve programming languages to work with data, which means that business users can interact with their data without any help from IT departments. Tableau comes in different versions: Tableau Desktop (free), Tableau Desktop Professional (pay per user), and Tableau Server (business only). The Tableau 10.5 certification is achieved through a combination of skills in working with the complete suite of Tableau software. Although all of these versions are similar, there are subtle differences between them that make them different and effective in their own way. Seeing the popularity of this certification, there are lots of companies offering Tableau courses and certifications. The biggest among them include Kelsey Group, VI Certification Institute, DataTECH Certification, and others which are also covered in our Tableau Dumps. Kelsey Group (KelseyCert) is one of the top providers in data visualizations certification, but what makes KelseyCert unique from other providers is its Partnership with Tableau. KelseyGroup is a member of the Tableau Partner Network (TPN).
So, not only does KelseyCert offer cheaper Tableau training through its partners, but it also offers special discounts to affiliated clients. During our research, we found out that KelseyGroup is one of the only certifications that actually focuses on Tableau Desktop 10.5, not on Tableau 11 (like others do). Tableau 11 is the latest version of Tableau. The certification is focused on learning Tableau 11 and its capabilities. However, KelseyCert has produced a table comparing Tableau 10.5 and Tableau 11, which does not include any information about new features in Tableau 11. They have also omitted the final section of the certification questions (back-end management) which are not related to what you can do with Tableau 10.5 at all.
Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification
Tableau 10.5 is a part of the Tableau Desktop suite, a complete enterprise visual analytics package. These all are integrated together to form a complete visual analytics solution. Tableau 11 is also considered as part of Tableau Desktop Suite; however, it is not part of this certification path. Tableau Desktop Specialist (TDS) certification is specially designed to address the needs of people working on Tableau Desktop. It is intended to assess candidates' skills in working with Tableau Desktop 10.5 version. Tableau 10.5 vs. 11: As we have mentioned, this certification focuses on the features of Tableau 10.5 and how it can be utilized to gain insights and answer various business questions such as identifying peak performance times, understanding financial statements, or finding key product sales channel opportunities for a retail store chain. The Certified Tableau Desktop Specialist (CSTD) exam is aimed at those taking their first steps into the world of visual analytics. It requires the user to be familiar with working with the complete suite of Tableau data visualization software (Tableau 10.5, Expresso, and Dashboard Designer).
After completion of this exam, you will receive your CSTD certification. The Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification is designed for IT professionals who are "responsible for architecting, installing, and administering Tableau Server as well as designing, building, and supporting Tableau desktop installations which are all included in Tableau Dumps. The certification focuses on the following Tableau technologies: Tableau Server, Desktop 5.0.7 or later (any user level), and Desktop 9.0 or later (any user level)." The syllabus of the certification is slightly different from the Ultimate version. For example, it doesn't have a section on installation and administration of other data sources (e.g., high-performance computing systems), which are covered in greater detail in the Ultimate version.
Getting certified will help you understand the underlying architecture of a Tableau server environment. It will also teach you to create and set up a data source for your own use. This certification is currently unavailable from KelseyGroup. A few other companies offer certifications on Tableau Desktop, which are focused more on the day-to-day administration and configuration of Tableau Desktop, as opposed to IT professionals who want to build a customer's environment with in-house tools. In the past, KelseyGroup offered a Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification, but it has since been retired. You can still get certifications from other providers, however.
Certification Topics of Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification
To successfully complete the certification exam, you will need to have a huge amount of Tableau experience. You will need to know and understand the following topics:
- Tableau Server Installation and Administration
- Desktop Features and Configuration
- Tableau Desktop Maintenance
- Data Connectivity for Tableau
- Query Design and Data Interpreting
Exam Requirements of Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification
In order to take the certification exam, you must pass a two-hour pre-assessment test before taking the actual exam. The pre-assessment evaluates your understanding of the topics listed above. It consists of 60 questions, and it takes around 2 hours to complete. Prior to taking the certification exam, you need to have at least three years of experience in data visualization or business intelligence roles. The certification consists of one written (online) exam with 45 multiple choice questions that have to be answered within 90 minutes. The passing rate for this exam is 52%. The Kelsey Group recommends that you spend at least 50 hours preparing for this test.
Exam Cost of Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification
It costs 795 USD to take the TDS certification exam. The price is very competitive because the price for other certifications is much higher (e.g., fundamental Tableau certification costs 1,195 USD). Also, you can register for the basic Tableau Desktop Certification exam for just 295 USD. The individual certification cost does not include any training to help you understand all topics covered in the exam, which is why KelseyGroup recommends that you spend at least 50 hours preparing for this test. Training from KelseyGroup itself (where they will give a full course about Tableau) would range around 3,000- 5,000 USD, but cheaper options can be found in off-shoring countries like India.
Tableau Certified Data Analyst certification
The Tableau Certified Data Analyst certification is the entry-level of 3 different certifications that can be taken in the field of Tableau. It is meant for people who are new to Tableau and want to learn how to use it for practical purposes. Certification is designed for "analysts, scientists, and data scientists who want to gain or expand expertise with Tableau Desktop and leverage its capabilities in their own work." It requires the user to be familiar with working with the complete suite of Tableau software (Tableau Desktop, Desktop Manager, and Dashboard Designer).
The syllabus of this certification is an extension of the topics covered in the CSTD certification. This certification is currently unavailable from KelseyGroup. A few other companies offer certifications on Tableau Desktop, which are focused more on the day-to-day administration and configuration of Tableau Desktop, as opposed to IT professionals who want to build a customer's environment with in-house tools. In the past, KelseyGroup offered a Tableau Certified Data Analyst Certification, but it has since been retired. You can still get certifications from other providers, however. The Tableau Certified Data Analyst (TCDA) certification has been discontinued. TCDAs are now certified as TBCAs which are also covered in our Tableau Dumps. Certification to this level requires much more knowledge of statistics and data analysis than the lower levels. For example, having a basic understanding of regression analysis is required.
To get the TCDA certification, you need to pass the following exams:
Tableau 10.1: All-in-one for Data Preparation and Analysis Tableau 10.5: Supporting all device types to create dashboards and analysis Tableau 10.5: Charting with Dashboard Designer Tableau 9.0: Visual Analytics with Dashboard Designer, Data Visualization Associate (DVA), and Statistical Modeler (Stamper)
Tableau Certified Business Intelligence Professional (TCBIP) certification is designed for business intelligence professionals who already have a high level of experience with programs like SAS or SPSS, but are new to Tableau.
Certification Topics of Tableau Certified Data Analyst
The exam covers the following topics:
- Tableau Server installation and administration
- Desktop features, configuration, maintenance, and security
- Tableau Desktop features and configuration
- Data connectivity for Tableau
- Visual analytics with Tableau Dashboard Designer and Tableau Public
Exam Requirements of Tableau Certified Data Analyst
This certification is not available from KelseyGroup, but it has been retired in favor of the Tableau Certified Data Analyst (TCDA) certification. Prior to getting this certification, you need to have at least three years of experience in business intelligence roles.
Exam cost of Tableau Certified Data Analyst
There is not much information available on the price of this certification. The annual cost of online certification exams administered by Pearson VUE or Prometric was 593 USD in 2012. Please note that the price does not include any training. You can register for the Tableau Certified Data Analyst certification and the Tableau All-in-one for Data Preparation and Analysis exam, which costs around $1,500 total. This includes a one-year membership with KelseyGroup that includes free access to training resources and a variety of eBooks, videos, and other study materials, as well as access to the webinars with clear explanations. The price of an individual TCDA exam is 1,500 USD each.
Tableau Server Certified Associate Certification
The Tableau Server Certified Associate Certification is a low-level certification which is also covered in Tableau Dumps that gives you a basic understanding of the features and capabilities of the Tableau Server. With this certification, you can work with your own data set and create dashboards with an easy user interface. You will get some knowledge of ETL, database design, reports, and BI tools in general. You need a basic understanding of the data warehouse concepts before taking this exam.
This certification is designed for IT professionals who want to work with Tableau Server. It will prepare you to administer Tableau Server. The topics covered in this certification are built upon the material covered on the Tableau Desktop Specialist exam for administrators. Tableau Server Certification requires an administrator of 2007 or later Microsoft Windows version to attend instructor-led training, where a thorough review of administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security will be taught. The syllabus for this certification is not available from KelseyGroup. Instead, it has been retired in favor of the new Tableau Certified Administrator (TCA) exam, which has been designed to be more comprehensive and rigorous than the old Tableau Certified Server Associate (TCSA).
